SCHOOL OF SOCIAL SCIENCES AND BUSINESS STUDIES

Brief history of the School

The National Institute for Nigerian Languages (NINLAN) has a School of Social Sciences Studies, which was introduced in the system in 2020. The programmes offered in this department are founded on the mandate of the Institute to produce professionally competent, highly motivated and efficient translation teachers. The Department has competent lecturers who are qualified translators.

Vision and mission:

he vision and mission of the School is to train students in Social Science and the Nigerian language of their choice to enable them to be able to teach such subjects in Nigerian Languages.

  1. For NCE students:
    1. The programme is geared towards training students to be competent and capable of teaching the Nigerian language and the subject combined at the Primary and Junior Secondary School levels.
    2. Prepare them for further studies in the discipline 
  2. For Diploma students:
    1. To provide students theoretical and practical knowledge in Nigerian Languages of their choice and in the Social Sciences.
    2. Prepare them for further studies in the discipline of their choice.
  1. For NCE students
    A Senior Secondary School Certificate (SSSC/NECO or GCE ‘O’ level) with credit passes in four (4) subjects, including English Language, at not more than two sittings. Two of the credits should be relevant to the course the student wishes to offer. A pass in Mathematics is required or, A Grade 11 Teachers Certificate (TC11) with credit or merit in four (4) subjects at two sittings; two of which must be relevant to the course the candidate wishes to offer. Credit/Merit in English language and Pass in Mathematics may be required.
  2. For Diploma students:
    Candidates seeking admission shall possess at least credits in four subjects in their O’Level, which shall include English language, literature in English and any other two subjects. At least P7/ D7 in Mathematics is required.
